What is the "Mail Function"?
The "Mail Function" of ILIAS is an internal mail program of the learning platform. Similar to your own mail programs (e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Thunderbird etc.), the mail program of ILIAS is able to send, manage, and delete mails.
Note: The "Calendar" function is not available via the "Mail Function" but via the "Calendar Function".
Note: The "Calendar" function is not available via the "Mail Function" but via the "Calendar Function".
- The "Mail Function" can be used by users of the learning platform to communicate with each other.
- The "Mail Function" is partly stored in ILIAS objects (tests, surveys etc.) as a function, e.g. by sending automated messages of the learning platform to the users with the help of a mail.
What can the mail function be used for?
In general, the mail function plays an important role in communicating information to a user of the platform.
- Mails in courses: If you create an "ILIAS course" for your course and your students have joined the course, you can use the mail function directly in your course room via the tab "Members". By clicking on the button "Mail to Members" you can thus send information (e.g. on the beginning and structure of a course) simultaneously to all members of your course and thus notify them.
- Mails in ILIAS objects: In the "Settings", some ILIAS objects offer the possibility to send automated mails to learners working on a test, a submission task or a survey. Usually these are small reminders, e.g. that the submission deadline for a given task is about to expire or that participation in a survey has not yet taken place.
