Reusing Existing Courses and Content
There are various ways of continuing to use existing courses and materials on ILIAS. The prerequisite for this is that you have admin rights in both the new and the old course:
1. copy course: You can use this option to copy courses that you have already created on ILIAS (e.g. courses from the previous semester).

Go to the category containing the existing course you wish to copy. Click on the blue arrow (1) next to the course title and select “Copy” (2) from the action menu. In the next step, select the location in the magazine to which the course is to be copied. Then select which items are to be copied, linked or omitted.
Please note that when linking objects, a link to the original is created instead of a copy.
Notes on copying courses:
- As the copying process is started as a background process, please be patient. The objects from the original course will gradually appear in the newly created copy within a few minutes; please do not change anything in the course settings until all objects have been copied.
- All objects that can be switched online or offline are created as offline in the target course during copying and must be reactivated manually.
2. transfer content: With this option, you can transfer content/objects as well as the page design of a course to another course, a group or a folder. This also works for courses that you have created via HISinOne.

You can transfer content/objects as well as the page design of a course to another course, a group or a folder. This is also possible for courses that you have created via HISinOne.
To do this, click on the “Content” tab (1) within the course, then on ‘Manage’ (2) and finally on “Transfer content” (3).

You can now choose whether you want to search for a course in the magazine (1) or under your own memberships (2):
If you click on “Select magazine tree”, the “Magazine” (1) opens with the sections and subsections of the course catalog. If you click on “Select memberships”, you will see your own courses - this may be the quicker and easier way to find the relevant course.

In the magazine, click on the respective “+” on the left-hand side of the course title (2) to open the sub-category. There you can select the desired, previously created course by clicking on the selection field (3). Then click on “Next” below the list (4).

On the page that now appears, you can select which objects you would like to transfer to the new course. You can decide which objects you want to “Copy” (1), only ‘Link’ (2) or “Omit” (3). The prerequisite is that you have administration or tutor rights in the courses.
(1) Copy: A copy of the object without participant data is created (recommended!)
(2) “Link”: The object is only linked, i.e. the participant data linked to the object is retained (generally not recommended!). This may be useful if, for example, a wiki or a forum is used in several courses.
(3) Omit: The object is not included.
3. import course: This option allows you to import courses that you have exported from other ILIAS systems from your local computer in ZIP format.

This option allows you to import courses that you have exported from other Ilias systems from your local computer in ZIP format. Click on “Browse” (1) and select the corresponding file from your local computer. Then confirm with the “Import” button (2).
