The “mail function” of ILIAS is an internal mail program that can be used to send, receive and manage mails.
1. the “mail function” can be used by users of the learning platform to communicate with each other (e.g. via Communication --> Mail). It is not possible to write to external e-mail addresses and receive e-mails from outside.
2. mails in ILIAS objects: In some cases, ILIAS objects offer the option of sending automated mails to learners under “Settings”. As a rule, these are small reminders, e.g. that the submission deadline for an assignment is approaching or that participation in a survey or test has not yet taken place.
3. emails in courses or groups: You can send an email to all members in the course at the same time via the “Members” tab using the “Mail to members” button. Alternatively, you can tick the individual course members in the members tab. If necessary, increase the number of lines to display all participants on one page. By default, the email is forwarded to the student's email address or the email address stored in MyAccount.
Note: On the central learning platform of the University of Freiburg, you can make your own settings in your profile under Settings --> “Mail settings” tab. The default setting here is forwarding to the student e-mail address or the e-mail address stored in MyAccount. You can also add a personal signature.
Your user name is displayed on ILIAS according to the following system: UniAccount@uni-freiburg.de (e.g. ab1234@uni-freiburg.de).
Even if it may look like it: this is not an e-mail address! Mails to this address will not reach the addressee.
