Profile and Privacy
What is Profile and Privacy?
As with other Internet platforms, the ILIAS learning platform allows you to view your personal data and to make changes and additions. You will find the function "Profile and Privacy" when you click your avatar in the top right corner of your ILIAS screen.
What can Profile and Privacy be used for?
If you select the function "Personal data and profile", you can adjust the settings within the following two tabs:
- Profile Data: For each user of the central learning platform ILIAS of the University of Freiburg, the first and last name as well as the e-mail address of the University of Freiburg are stored by default. These fields are marked with a red asterisk and are thus mandatory data that must always be stored in your personal profile. We recommend that you do not change these three fields. In addition, you can use the function to enter even more personal data about yourself if you wish. For this purpose, we offer you various fields on the central learning platform ILIAS:
- Avatar
- Interests: General Interests / Offering Help / Looking for Help
- Contact Information: Institution / Department / Phone, Office
- Publish Profile: In the next tab "Publish Profile", you will see that, by default, your profile is deactivated. You can decide for yourself if you want to make your profile visible to logged-in users and, most importantly, you can specify exactly which of your stored personal data you want to make visible.
Example: Profile in the Course Room - Tutorial Support
Many lecturers at the University of Freiburg set up an ILIAS course room as a virtual companion to their face-to-face courses. As a rule, the lecturers or academic staff are the "creators/owners" of the course. This offers an advantage for communication on the ILIAS learning platform: If these persons have completed their "profile" with the desired information their profile is then visible to course members (in this case the students) in the tab "Info" of the course. With the help of the information from the profile, you can find out which lecturer is responsible for the course and you as a lecturer can enter the desired contact data in the profile so that the students can reach you.
