Legal Issues
When applying digital teaching, teachers are constantly confronted with legal questions. In particular, these are questions on the subject of "copyright" and "data protection".
On this page, we have compiled some information and guiding questions for your orientation.
Important: Unfortunately, many questions cannot be generalized by means of examples. Therefore, questions or problems that you may encounter in your daily teaching routine should be considered separately as individual cases. If in doubt, seek legal advice.

Copyright
We have created an openly accessible learning module on the subject of copyright law, in which typical questions and case studies are presented. The learning module "E-Legal? Information on E-Learning and Copyright" can be found under the following link:

Recording of an informational event on the reform of the UrhWissG 2018
In 2017, the copyright law was reformed with the UrhWissG, which came into force on March 1, 2018. An information event on the changes was held in February 2018 with Prof. Dr. Götz von Ohlenhusen. The recording can be viewed here: (in German)
Open Educational Resources (OER)
An elegant way to avoid questions of copyright law is to make materials available as "Open Educational Resources" and to also use third-party materials that are available under an open license. Like science with "Open Science" and "Open Access", digital teaching also uses the possibility of providing content such as images, videos, or PDF scripts with a "Creative Commons License" zu versehen.
Further information on what is meant by "Open Educational Resources" or "OER" for short can be found on the relevant page in our Digital Teaching Toolbox: Open Educational Resources (OER)
Privacy
- Which data (of students) may I process when I am doing digital teaching?
- Which systems (especially third-party systems not hosted by the university itself) may I use in teaching?
- How long may I keep data in digital form, or when do I have to delete it?
