LiveVoting
What is LiveVoting?
The ILIAS object "LiveVoting" is an "Audience Response System" integrated on ILIAS. LiveVoting can be used within classroom sessions to allow more interactivity between teachers and participants/students. With LiveVoting you can, for example, ask questions, query moods or collect ideas in the form of short texts.
Excursus: Many may have the quiz show "Who wants to be a millionaire" in mind. With the so-called "audience joker", the audience can use a voting console with buttons for A / B / C / D to comment on a question that was addressed to the current candidate. After the voting phase, the audience's vote is then displayed for the candidate.
What can LiveVoting be used for?
- take up the content of the last session by asking questions at the beginning of a lecture
- ask questions during the lecture about contents just presented to check for understanding: "I give you three formulas for iron oxide here - please choose the correct formula". Depending on the result, you can adjust the progress of your lecture accordingly, i.e. repeat contents if necessary or explain them in more detail.
- determine the opinions or moods among the students: "Do you agree with the statement that the theory of XY is the most important one in this discipline"?
Example: LiveVoting for topic selection
In many larger courses (e.g. lectures), in which many students participate, there are sometimes optional topics, which are often only determined by the teacher at the end of the semester. LiveVoting offers a nice opportunity to take the students' interests into account and to ask them to vote on the topics available for selection in a quick vote via LiveVoting. This allows the teacher to select topics most of the students of the course are most interested in.
