HTML Learning Module
What is a HTML Learning Module?
The ILIAS object "HTML learning module" offers you the possibility to upload and display web contents in HTML format on ILIAS. This may be the case if you use certain authoring tools (such as Adobe Captivate or Articulate 360) to create your digital learning materials. These authoring tools generate an HTML file as a final product that you can integrate into ILIAS using the "HTML learning module".
Excursus: The term HTML stands for "Hypertext Markup Language". Most of the websites you see on the internet are available as HTML files. With HTML an author can determine in which font size and font style a text is displayed, for example, or he/she can use it to display other media and links on a website.
What can the HTML Learning Module be used for?
As already described, the HTML learning module on ILIAS can be used to embed externally created content (that is available in HTML format) on ILIAS. This might be the case if you want to access digital learning material from colleagues at another university, but they have not created their content with the authoring tools of ILIAS. Thus, the exchange of digital learning materials does not have to fail because your institutions do not use the same learning platform.
Important note: Not in all cases the embedding of HTML content with the HTML learning module works smoothly. In some cases, there are also technical restrictions to be observed. Please refer to our tutorial below for more information.
Example: Using digital learning materials in HTML format
In some cases, you might not want to use the authoring tools that ILIAS provides you with when creating your digital learning materials but other tools. Sometimes, other authoring tools are preferred because they offer other possibilities of presentation and structuring that you as an author would like to use. In this case, you can use these authoring tools and then make the content available to your students on the ILIAS learning platform with the HTML learning module.
