Exercise / Submission
What is an Excercise/Submission?
With the help of the ILIAS object "Exercise/Submission" you can create scheduled tasks for students. Student submissions can be in different file formats (texts, files, e-portfolio etc.). You can manage and evaluate these submissions centrally and provide feedback on them.
What can the Excercise/Submission be used for?
The task to be submitted/exercise is suitable for weekly submissions (assignments) as well as for one-time submissions that occur only once per semester. Below you can find some examples:
Submissions in a weekly rhythm:
- Submission of protocols from the practical laboratory course
- Handing in exercise sheets for participation in tutorials (this form of exercise / task is often provided in science courses)
- Submission of reflections on a specific topic
- Submission of seminar papers and term papers
- Submission of a course-related e-portolio or blog / learning diary
- Submission of a pass/fail assessment in the form of an essay
Example: Weekly submission of a report on their laboratory activities
In many scientific degree programs, practical laboratory courses are part of the course of study. Students are asked to submit a weekly report on their laboratory activities. This task can be covered very well with the exercise to be submitted, for example.

For the entire duration of the practical laboratory course, the relevant tasks can be created in the object " Exercise/Submission" by the responsible teacher. Students can then submit their reports digitally on a weekly basis, as a PDF or Word file for instance. If a specific form for the report is desired, a template could be made available at the beginning of the semester, which the students could then use to prepare their digital reports. Feedback from lecturers can also be provided efficiently and transparently on the basis of a stored catalogue of criteria (guiding questions).
How does it work?
