Matrix Messenger Support
Setting notifications
Even with a new messenger tool on your computer, you should still be able to get your work done without being disturbed by Matrix Messenger. In the age of digital distraction, we all need to learn to adjust notifications in order to meet our needs.
Scenario 1:
If you are writing a proposal for a research project and the deadline is quickly approaching, you may want to be notified if your colleagues would like to start a discussion with you. Notifications should be displayed promptly and you should be made aware of them.
Scenario 2:
If you join a room for the purpose of occasionally learning about new scientific papers and other interesting things, you can turn off notifications. You can remind yourself to enter the room from time to time, or only be notified when your name is explicitly mentioned in a discussion.
1. To configure your notification settings, click on your name in the top left corner to open the user menu (1). Select Notifications (2) in the drop down menu. You can now configure the notification options to reflect your needs. For example, you can enable/disable audible notifications.
In addition to adjusting the global settings, it is also possible to adjust the settings for each individual room. Move the mouse over the individual rooms in the room list (left column). A small bell symbol appears to the right of each room. Click on the bell to configure the notifications for each room individually.
