Setting up key backup
In order to be able to access your messages on various end devices, they must be verified by a key backup. Verification or decryption via a security phrase/security key is required every time you start a new session on a new end device.
If you do not use a backup, you will no longer have access to your messages when you sign in again.
Set up the key backup as follows:
1. Click on your name in the top left corner to open the profile options. Click on Security & Privacy.
4. Enter a strong password in the Enter a Security Phrase field (don’t use the password for your UniAccount!) (1) and click on Continue (2). Confirm your password by entering it again and finish the process by clicking on Continue.
A cryptographic security key will also be created that fulfils the same purpose as the security phrase. You should safely store your security key as an emergency key somewhere where you can find it again. Click the Download button (1) to save (2) the text file in a secure location on your computer. After saving, complete the process by clicking on Continue.
We recommend that you save your security phrase/security key in your password manager.
You have successfully created and saved a security phrase and a security key for encrypting your messages.
