Finding and joining rooms
To communicate in Matrix, whether 1:1 or with several people at the same time, you must either join an existing room or create a new room (see Rooms and Spaces).
Depending on the room setting, you must be invited to the room by the room admin (private room setting) or you can join the room via a link, a room address or a room ID (public room setting).
To find and join public rooms, proceed as described below.
1. Click on the plus symbol next to Rooms in the sidebar on the left and select #Explore public rooms.
2. Enter the desired room in the search field and join it.
IMPORTANT: The ability to find rooms depends on the room setting configured by the room admin when the room was created (see Rooms and Spaces). It is helpful if you know the complete room address and can enter it in the search field. In addition to the hashtag symbol, the room address includes the name and the corresponding homeserver:
#room-name:server-name
Optional:
Open one of your spaces (these are displayed in the far left column of the user interface). Click on the space name in the top left corner (1) to open the space options. Here you will find the “Space home” (2), where all of the rooms contained in this space are displayed. If you’d like to join a room, click on Join (3).
