Creating private rooms
To communicate in Matrix, whether 1:1 or with several people at the same time, you must join an existing room (see Finding and joining rooms) or create a new room.
These instructions describe how to create private rooms. Private rooms are closed and can only be made accessible to users by inviting them, i.e. by manually adding them.
2. Select “Private room (invite only)” under the room settings.
3. Enter a name and a topic (optional) for the room. Advanced settings can be displayed or hidden in the lower part of the window.
In order to allow users from other servers to access your room, you must make sure that “Block anyone not part of matrix.uni-freiburg.de from ever joining this room.” is disabled.
“Invite only” means: People must manually invited or added by entering their Matrix ID:
@<UniAccount>:<server-name>
e.g. @hf1034:matrix.uni-freiburg.de
4. To invite people to your newly created room, click on the green Invite to this room button in the chat window.
