Performing verification
It is possible to use Matrix Messenger on multiple end devices in different sessions. For example, you can use the messenger on your laptop and on your smartphone at the same time. However, you must verify your session after signing in for the first time. This confirms your identity as an authorized person and enables access to previous chat histories.
The steps required for verification are explained below.
1. Sign in on an additional end device (e.g. via the Element app on your smartphone). You will be asked to verify the session after signing in on both devices. Confirm your sign in by clicking Yes, it was me.
2. Click on the Verify session button that now appears (e.g. on your laptop) and accept the verification request for the additional session by clicking on the Accept button (e.g. on your smartphone).
3. Once your verification request has been accepted, a new message will appear offering two options for device verification:
(1) Scanning a QR code
(2) Comparing emojis
(1) Scan the QR code on your desktop with your smartphone to be automatically redirected to your verified session.
(2) To start the verification process by comparing emojis, click on the Start button
4. Complete the verification process by clicking on Got it.
Since you have verified your identity and the devices have thus exchanged security keys, all of the messages sent and received in your available rooms will be displayed.
The verification request has a timeout – if the response time has expired, you can restart the request manually.
