Matrix Messenger
Matrix: The new Messenger for the University of Freiburg
Matrix Messenger enables efficient communication similar to WhatsApp, Telegram and Slack, for example, but with data protection-compliant encryption and its own hosting infrastructure provided by the University IT Service (Rz). With functions such as direct messages, group chats, fast file transfer and audio and video telephony, Matrix facilitates collaboration and the exchange of information in the student council, in courses, learning groups or research projects.
Matrix is the name of the open communication protocol. Element is used as a web, desktop or mobile application. The messenger enables federated communication both within the university and across institutions with Matrix users from other academic institutions, e.g. for project work.
Registration for Matrix is simply done via the UniAccount. This makes Matrix a comprehensive solution that meets the need for secure and efficient real-time communication between students and eliminates the need for workarounds in institutions and institutes.
