Deactivation of HTML / Javascript / iframe content in ILIAS 8
Why are HTML / Javascript and iframe content no longer supported on ILIAS 8?
In the opinion of the ILIAS developers, the security risks resulting from the user-side embedding of such content cannot be reasonably limited. Therefore, the decision was made to no longer allow HTML/Javascript and iframe content from ILIAS 8 onwards. In future, this content will no longer be evaluated or executed, but displayed as text.
This function was mainly used to integrate external pages via "iframe" (e.g. YouTube videos via "embedding code") or to design content on ILIAS page editor pages beyond the existing possibilities of the page editor (e.g. via HTML tags such as "<strong> .... </strong>").
What content and objects are affected?
- Course and group pages ...
- Learning module and content pages ...
- Glossary entries ...
- Page design around ILIAS test questions ...
- Portfolio pages and page templates ...
... that contain iframes / HTML or Javascript content.
What content is not affected?
- Formatting made via the page editor functions or via adjustments to the content style of a page or learning module.
- YouTube videos that have been integrated using the "Insert Image/Media" function in the page editor via a link to the YouTube video will continue to be displayed as embedded videos.
- Videos embedded using the "Insert Video from ViMP" or "Insert External Video" (from Panopto) functions will continue to be displayed without errors.
- LaTeX content embedded via MathJax or double "$" is still displayed correctly
How can HTML / Javascript and iframe content be converted?

Solutions for text formatting
When formatting texts on ILIAS, only use the formatting offered via the editor.

You have the option of creating your own styles if the existing formatting is not sufficient for you:
- Go to "Customize page" and click on the blue action arrow to the right of the "Finish Editing" button
