Glossary
What is a Glossary?
The ILIAS object "Glossary" offers the possibility to create a list of words and corresponding explanations, as it is common in a dictionary for example. The glossary on ILIAS can either be created by one person (e.g. the teacher) or by several authors together. The entries in the glossary can be designed with texts, pictures and other multimedia elements.
What can the Glossary be used for?
You can use the glossary to explain and clearly present terms that are important and relevant to the course context. These could be, for example:
- Important definitions of technical terms in the discipline
- Linguistic translations that you would like to provide for the students
Example: Presenting important basic technical terms in a clear way
In many disciplines, one of the basic learning objectives is that students should know, understand and explain the technical terms used in the subject matter of the course (similar to vocabulary used in language learning).
- In the natural science subjects these are often definitions of formulas or equipment important for laboratory work, the meaning of which the students must know.
- In the humanities, for example, these are often technical terms or theorems which are also precisely defined in terms of research in order to be able to do good scientific work.
How does it work?
