What is an ILIAS Learning Module?

The object "ILIAS learning module" is an online learning book, which can contain different media such as texts, pictures, videos and files. With the help of the ILIAS learning module, teachers can compile learning units on specific topics for their students. The ILIAS learning module offers the possibility to create chapters and pages that students can browse through as in an analogue book. The ILIAS learning module is used by authors (e.g. teachers) as an authoring tool. Students can then use the ILIAS learning module as a learning object.

What can the ILIAS Learning Module be used for?

Example: Learning module from the field of mathematics "Transforming functions" - repetition of basics

At the University of Freiburg, there are already several courses that follow the didactic basic concept of "blended learning". One part of teaching consists of classroom teaching, another part is covered by online learning offerings. The presence and online parts of the course are closely interlinked.

In such a learning scenario, learning modules can be used very well as "knowledge mediators". In our example from the field of mathematics, students can use the online learning module on the topic of "Transforming Functions" to repeat the important basics on this topic. Subsequently, in a face-to-face session, for example a tutorial, more time can be spent on discussing questions regarding content and comprehension. In the classroom session itself, the topic "Transforming Functions" does not need to be taken up again.
